The power of 50…NOW!

A few months ago I decided that I would celebrate my 50th birthday early.

Yep, I’ve decided I don’t want to wait any longer. I don’t want to wait to experience the freedom and power that women over 50 have discovered and exemplify.

I can’t wait a minute longer.

This seems to be a rite of passage and frankly, I am on a quest to bring it on sooner than later. I am constantly searching (and fishing) for ways to learn from these “revolutionary” women. I call them revolutionary because when they hit the FIVE-OH their revolt against those hang-ups that have been dictating their happiness for the last several decades. They step into their power and speak from their truth. Amazing.

WebMD.com did a study in which they asked women over 50 why they love their age.

The responses confirm I am on to something…

“After turning 50 I felt liberated. I felt like I could say what I wanted to say, do things I wanted to do, and wear things I  wanted to wear.” — WebMD:Suezee

“We don’t sweat the little things any more — and we’ve learned that darn near everything is a little thing!” WebMD: — Clara

“You know what you like and what you don’t like. If someone is trying to talk you into wearing pink because it’s trendy, you don’t let them influence you. There’s wonderful self-trust when you hit 50.” — C. Northrup

“You’ve learned that you can depend on yourself and you are open to new opportunities. You can accept change, tackle life, and move on.” — S. Mitchell

I love this one best…

“You learn to fuel your life from your inner wisdom, from your soul. Your life only works well if it’s fueled from what’s really true inside, not from what’s current in magazines.” — C. Northrup

And the list goes on…You can see the full article here: http://women.webmd.com/features/50-great-things-about-women-over-50

So, here’s what I’m wondering…Can 27, 35 or 42 be the new 50?

Are ya with me ladies?

I agree! I’m 47. I decided about six months ago that I’m not waiting anymore to find happiness, joy and excitement for my life. I’m not asking for permission or acceptance of the choices I make. Life’s too short. I gave myself permission to be happy and find what I need. I couldn’t wait until I’m 50!

I’m now engaged to be married to a wonderful man who just happens to be 64. Many believe that our ages are too far apart but we are happy together.

I’m not living to work anymore but working to pay for the lifestyle I want. I won’t retire but will probably lessen my work schedule as the next year goes by.

I enjoy your blog. It always gets me thinking!

    Thanks!

    Julie

I’m proud to say I’m 50! Actually, I’ll be 51 in just a few weeks. This has truly been the best year. I feel so good about who I am at this point in my life. My best friend just turned 50 last week. I was right there to welcome her in to the best age we’ve experienced yet. I know there will be many more to come!

  3. Amazing! Thanks Julie and Patty for further affirming my thoughts about women over 50. Hey, whenever you get a chance be sure to rub up against some of us who aren’t so lucky:) Still hanging out in our 30’s and 40’s waiting, wanting, weaning ourselves off the grasp that our age has on our ability to let loose and FLY!
Some of us are there, some of us are getting there, but we rely on you guys to show us the way whenever possible.
    Thanks for being you.
    Cheers,
    Jennifer Powers
